3.1.15 Art Museum or Hospital?

Speaker: Philip Chung

  • There are two types of churches in North America-art museums and hospitals
  • Art museum: you leave your problems at home and you only present your best side at church
  • Hospital: people who go there come with a deep sense of honesty and are aware of their flaws
  • Matthew 9:9-13
  • When you want to start a movement, you approach the rich/powerful/wise
  • But Jesus does the exact opposite: He approaches the leper, the centurion, the tax collector
  • How do we see our calling? Ourselves? Is our church a hospital for the sick, or has it become an art museum?
  • We cannot heal one another, but we can create a space for people to come to Jesus for healing

2.15.15 In the Spirit of Worship

True Worship (John 4:23-24)

Speaker: Philip Chung

  • God is spirit/must worship in spirit in truth
  • Warning (2 Peter 2:1-3, Matthew 7:15)
  • Beware of false prophets
  • 1 Corinthians 14: 26-33
  • Let all things be done for building up
  • For God is not a God of confusion but of peace
  • We have to be careful of how we worship
  • ex) Bethel Music- come from a charismatic church that encourages things such as speaking in tongues all the time, which Paul strictly prohibits in the Bible
  • Portrait of a Spirit-filled person (Galations 5:22-23a; 25)
  • love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…
  • The Holy Spirit doesn’t possess us, it fills us
  • Have Compassion (Matthew 9:35-36)
  • He had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd
  • Devote to Prayer (Mark 90: 25-29)
  • “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”
