THE FOOLISHNESS OF IDOLATRY

Habakkuk 2:18-20

  • Habakkuk was written around the time when the Israelites began to decline and the Babylonians began to dominate

1. Idols are made by human hands

  • you are greater than what you have created with your own hands
  • we are trusting in things that are lower than ourselves

2. Idols give false hope

  • God puts us through trial in seasons of difficulty to test our faith
  • Good events and idol worship are coincidental

3. Idols cannot speak

-Idolatry takes the good gifts of God and turns them into things we consider more important than God

-Our hearts are idol-making factories

-Give your golden years to God

-When you are face-to-face with God, you are struck to silence
